Post Doctoral Research ScientistThe Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University seek applications for a Post Doctoral Research Scientist appointment from US citizens/permanent residents interested in reducing exposure to a natural groundwater contaminant, arsenic, that occurs widely throughout South and Southeast Asia. The project focuses on the installation and monitoring of deep community wells in rural Bangladesh and, as an option of last resort, water treatment. An interest in Global Health, a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, as well as practical experience in environmental science or engineering are required, as is a willingness to travel to Bangladesh for extended periods of field work. The position would be a for a specific two year appointment, possibly starting as early as 07/01/09, at an annual salary of $49,000. Funding for this position depend on a successful application due June 1st for a supplement to a current Fogarty training grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (http://www.fic.nih.gov/recovery/supplements/postdoc.htm).
