School of Earth and Environment

Climate and Environmental Services Group
Project Officer

48 months fixed term

We seek an individual with strong project management skills, coupled with knowledge of earth/environmental science, to play a key role in the development of a cross-faculty group within the University of Leeds. The objective of the Project Officer is to integrate activity in climate and natural hazard research and to promote output to external stakeholders.

The post-holder will play a key role in leading the development and implementation of the delivery plan for the Climate and Environmental Services group. This sector embraces environmental analysis and prediction for a range of global phenomena and timescales, including the broad area of 'Natural Hazards'. Key external partners in this sector are weather and climate service providers, including the Met Office, and the reinsurance industry.

This sector is international, and the post-holder will be expected to travel within the UK and overseas, as needed, in order to develop and sustain strong relationships with external partners. One important partner in this sector is the Met Office. Through a new formal partnership, established in 2010, the post-holder will work closely with the Met Office to increase the commercial exploitation of our work in climate services in particular. The post-holder will also be involved in the development of new partnerships with industry in the area of 'geohazards' (earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions etc).

You will be educated to postgraduate degree level or equivalent, ideally in Earth/Environmental Science. With excellent communication and organisational skills you will also have the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
