The National Farmers' Union represents the interests of farmers and growers across England and Wales. Promoting competitive and socially responsible agriculture and horticulture, we influence policy at the highest levels to ensure the long-term viability for our members.
In this exciting and varied role you will lead and drive forward the NFU's policy in relation to the spectrum of environmental issues affecting soil and waste management.
You will work to raise the NFU's profile with members, and to raise your own profile as a national expert on these and other issues.
As part of the environment team at the NFU, you will be managing policy issues such as soils, sewage sludge and fly-tipping and be involved with initiatives that will protect and further our members' interests.
You will provide high quality expert advice to NFU Officeholders, Directors, Boards, Members and Staff on a wide range of issues in relation to the role.
You will recommend policies to the NFU's decision-making bodies and will represent NFU in negotiations with the European Commission, UK government departments, statutory agencies and non-governmental organisations.
With a relevant first degree in Geography, Environmental Science (or a similar subject), you will need to possess a high standard of written and verbal communication skills with excellent and proven negotiation skills.
You will need to have organisational and prioritising skills and be able
to solve problems.
Knowledge of agriculture and the associated environmental agenda is essential.
Experience of representing farmers and growers on environmental issues and an understanding and practical experience of EU and national government policy and decision-making are desirable.
