About the position

Under the Research and Innovation Programme Horizon 2020, NORCE has been actively participating and coordinating projects. NORCE has an ambitious EU strategy and action plan towards the new Research and Innovation Programme Horizon Europe, aiming to maximise opportunities under Pillars I, II and III.

NORCE is seeking a Senior EU Project Manager, with substantial previous experience in EU programmes, especially Horizon 2020, who can take a leading position in Project management for EU projects at NORCE.

The Senior EU Project Manager will be part of the operational staff in the Research Administration and report to Manager Research Administration.

Place of work is Bergen, Norway.


The Senior EU Project Manager will have a dedicated responsibility for professionalizing and exercising project management in EU-funded research at NORCE. The position combines hands-on responsibilities for ongoing projects with capacity building towards a team of EU Project Managers.


To contribute to building a strong EU competence in NORCE’s Research Administration and take a supervising role in EU specific legal, administrative and financial related issues.

During project execution:

  • To monitor that the projects are progressing according to its objectives, meeting deadlines, and satifying milestones and deliverables.
  • To establish communication between project partners for administrative and financial coordination, and to provide assessment for administrative and financial aspects to project partners when needed.
  • To coordinate, prepare and organise consortium meetings, reporting periods, reviews, specific project events, etc.
  • To work closely with the project’s Scientific Coordinators throughout the project lifetime.
  • To work in close cooperation with Financial project officers (e.g., in relation to personnel, purchases, equipment, among others).
  • Take an active role in developing, managing and contributing to the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation plan and activities.
  • To coordinate Grant Agreement Preparation (GAP) and Consortium Agreement (CA), and other relevant documentation.
  • To monitor that projects’ progress in accordance to EU regulations and NORCE processes and policy.
  • Take responsibility of the financial monitoring of the projects.

During proposal preparation:

  • To take responsibility of administrative and budgetary matters, and to carry out a comprehensive quality assurance of the budget prior to submission, in line with NORCE processes and policy.
  • To work closely with the project’s Scientific Coordinators throughout the proposal preparation.

Competence and experience required

  • Higher Education (Master degree or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years of experience in European project management, and skills to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • In-depth knowledge of EU funding programmes and regulations, including legal and financial rules.
  • Broad administrative experience within legal and financial issues within EU research.
  • Experience in project management of EU coordinated projects.
  • Competence in designing and providing internal training and courses on EU project management.

  • Competence in designing and providing internal training and courses on EU project management.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
  • Knowledge and experience on open science, data management, IPR and exploitation of results is not mandatory but will be valued.
  • Knowledge and experience with audits is not mandatory but will be valued.
  • Experience in communication on social media in a professional and scientific framework is beneficial.
