Department
The Catastrophe Response team sits within the Model Product Marketing team, based in London and is responsible for monitoring and responding to all global natural catastrophe events that have the potential to impact the insurance industry. This involves providing our clients with detailed analytics on the extent and severity of damage and modelling parameters to help them assess their losses. The catastrophe response team also defines the deliverables and timelines we release information, based on market demand and provides technical communications with our client base.
Responsibilities:
RMS is looking for a Catastrophe Response Analyst to join the Model Product Marketing team in London. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in business applications of scientific and engineering based applications. The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and grow the Cat Response service whilst being involved in many aspects of RMS' core business.
Responsibilities include:
- Support our real-time catastrophe response operations, aimed at providing our client's with up to date damage and impact assessments whenever a major hurricane, earthquake, flood or other catastrophic event occurs.
- Monitoring world-wide catastrophe events on a daily basis and producing written event summaries to tight daily deadlines that will appeal to a wide-based readership.
- Provide detailed impact analyses of affected regions, involving querying statistical databases of the building stock, producing maps and generating loss estimates using RMS catastrophe models.
- Work closely with the Model Development teams and the client facing teams before, during and after any catastrophes to coordinate the generation and release of all client deliverables during response.
- Assist in gathering client feedback and market intel to understand client requirements for the cat response service, products and software capabilities and providing ongoing support for end users.
- Support the wider Model Marketing operations such as supporting model launches and production of marketing material, producing literature for our clients and conducting market research.
Person Requirements:
- Must have an MSc degree or equivalent in a natural science, or related field, preferably combined with relevant work experience.
- A high level of proficiency in data analysis and data manipulation software tools (Excel, Access), plus a thorough knowledge of GIS software applications (preferably ESRI products) is required.
- Some basic VBA programming experience is preferred.
- A flair for map design and good writing skills are definitely strong advantages.
- You need to be a fast learner with strong organisational skills, combined with close attention to detail and excellent writing skills.
- Due to the need to work to very tight deadlines and the level of cross-organisational interaction this role requires the ability to work effectively under pressure, to be flexible and multi-task
- The unpredictable nature of natural catastrophes means that you will occasionally be required to work long or unsocial hours
- In-depth training in RMS products and software will be provided
- Some travel required
