Summary:

The University is investing strategically in academic leadership at Professorial level to support the continued growth of exceptional cross-faculty strengths in water and environmental sustainability. This post requires an ambitious, highly-motivated and talented individual with a proven track record in environmental and sustainability research. You will have extensive knowledge of environmental economics and sustainability science from a business management and social science perspective, and an understanding of the energy and/or water utilities and the associated supply chain, related government regulatory agencies and knowledge of the private sector, RCUK and Defra agencies' funding mechanisms and opportunities.

This Chair will work in tandem with a further new Chair in Water Sustainability (with a potential focus in water engineering or related research) appointed in the Faculty of Engineering. These posts will join existing University strengths in water engineering, catchment science, freshwater ecology, drylands ecology, urban planning and policy, and energy, environment and sustainability science. This Chair will have a strong commitment to world-class interdisciplinary research and teaching, including innovation in close partnership with industry and government agencies. The appointee will make a leading contribution to developing and leading large, interdisciplinary research projects, drawing on their own and existing university research and KT strengths, and enabling further world-class research in environmental sustainability to be developed.

The Management School at the University of Sheffield is in the top twenty of the UK's business schools. The Management School enjoys a strong demand for its postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. Both the MBA and MSc programmes are AMBA accredited and we are currently pursuing accreditation from both the AACSB and EQUIS.

In line with the University of Sheffield's professorial expectations, the post-holder will be expected to contribute strongly to teaching and academic leadership. You must also have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from within the University and from private and public sector organisations.
