UTPB's Environmental Science Program a Degree for
a Better Future

BSc in Environmental Science

Future scientists who want a wide variety of professional opportunities ranging from laboratories to field settings should consider the B.S. Degree in Environmental Science offered by the smaller, hands-on program at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa. Students with strong foundations in basic and applied sciences will build upon more than one discipline with specific courses in ecology, geographic information systems, environmental law, statistical sampling, and instrumental analysis in analytical chemistry. Upon graduation, these students will have the depth of knowledge to address both natural resources and today's complex environmental problems.

The highly flexible but strong curriculum of UTPB's Environmental Sciences Program expand knowledge and prepare professionals who will be the environmental leaders of tomorrow. The curriculum focus on integrating concepts and scientific understanding from various academic disciplines to advance understanding of regional, national and global environmental problems. It also advance understanding of the nexus between energy and water production and consumption, particularly under conditions of economic and climate change. The curriculum of the program focuses on other environmental problems such as desert compaction, salinization, decrease biodiversity or upset water system dynamics, and environmental aspects of carbon capture and storage (CCS). MSc Geosciences with Emphasis on Applied Environmental Applications

The program leading to a Master of Science degree in Geology requires a minimum of 24 semester credit hours of course work in geology and supporting or ancillary fields, and six semester credit hours of original research resulting n a thesis. The curriculum of courses selected by each student, in consultation with the graduate faculty, will be chosen to enable them to develop their professional interests and achieve their career goals. Up to nine semester hours of 4000 level courses can be included in the graduate curriculum. Within two semesters the student should select an advisor, who together with the student, will choose a thesis committee, approve a thesis topic and confirm the course curriculum in accord with the current regulations of the Graduate School.
