and Human Security

Qualification and Experience

  • PhD in International Relations or in a related field with areas of specialization which must include:
    • Critical Theories in International and Human Security
    • Terrorism Studies
    • Security Issues in the Americas
  • Considerable teaching experience at the postgraduate level

Further consideration would be given to candidates who possess:

  • A strong record of publications in the field
  • Demonstrable outputs or interest relating to relevant research

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching students at the level of the Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and the M.Sc. Degree in Global Studies/International Relations
  • Supervising the research work of candidates for the M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees in International Relations and participating in the research programme of the Institute in his/her particular field

Personal Attributes

The Institute places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team environment. Candidates should possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also:

  • The ability to contribute significantly to the work of the Institute in teaching, research, grant writing, curriculum development and supervision of graduate students
  • Be able to deal effectively with a wide range of people, to work as part of a team, and to liaise with colleagues where work interests overlap
  • Be dependable, reliable and able to produce work of a high quality
  • Have good interpersonal skills: the ability to work with staff, students and colleagues.
  • Have a flexible approach to work
  • Have a good work ethic, sensitivity and tact
