Research Project Manager

University of Windsor

Carbon Dynamics, Food Web Structure & Reclamation Strategies in
Athabasca Oil Sands Wetlands (CFRAW)

http://web2.uwindsor.ca/cfraw

Background: The CFRAW project is a 5-year collaborative study among researchers at 4 universities and 7 industrial partners to study function, structure and dynamics, and successional processes in newly formed wetlands in and near lease areas of the Athabasca oil sands region of Alberta (http://web2.uwindsor.ca/cfraw). Funded jointly by the partners and an NSERC Collaborative Research and Development grant, the goal of the project is to better understand changes in the sources and flows of carbon and associated potentially toxic materials through wetland food webs as they pass through early succession. This highly collaborative project currently involves 5 PI's, 3 PDF's and 20 graduate students.

Responsibilities: The project manager will coordinate communications, planning logistics, data and metadata tracking, and compiling administrative and research progress reports to sponsors and funding partners. We especially seek an individual with strong communication and quantitative skills. Opportunities for data analysis or interpretation are available for suitably qualified and interested individuals.

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree or Masters+ postgraduate experience in biological/environmental science with specialization in aquatic ecology, ecological modeling, nutrient or carbon dynamics, biogeochemistry, or a related field. Interests in quantitative ecological approaches to testing hypotheses, and/or experience with geospatial data sets are especially desirable.

Location: Position will be based at the University of Windsor, Ontario. Opportunity to include summer field work based in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Term: One year; renewable for up to 3 years.
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience up to equivalent of NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (currently $40,000 CAD/y).
Last Date to apply: July 15, 2009 or when position is filled.
Start Date: 1 September, 2009 or sooner.
