Potts (http://nature.berkeley.edu/pottslab) on theoretical and applied aspects of tropical forest management with an emphasis on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem service production. The appointments will initially be for one year and are extendable to two years. The salary range will be between $35,508-$43,500 and be commensurate with experience. The start date is flexible. Projects include (but are not limited) to developing: (i) rapid biodiversity assessment tools; (ii) spatial forest growth models; (iii) stand and landscape level carbon management strategies (REDD); (iv) decision support tools for forest planners. The successful applicants will contribute to an on-going interdisciplinary GEF/ITTO sustainable forest management project in Malaysia. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area such as ecology, economics, physics, mathematics, computer science, or statistics; strong analytical, computing and/or field skills; and have demonstrated the ability to produce high quality scientific results with limited direct guidance.
