International Rice Research InstitutePostdoctoral Fellow: regional-scale abiotic stress in rice production in South Asia and sub-Saharan AfricaThe International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to work on the analysis of regional-scale abiotic stress in rice production in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.Responsibilities The incumbent will use remote sensing and/or simulation modeling tools to characterize spatial and temporal patterns of the effect of drought stress and other abiotic stresses on rice production. This information should be helpful to refine breeding, selection, and dissemination of abiotic stress-tolerant rice varieties. Qualifications Applicants must have a PhD in crop simulation, climatology, hydrology, physical geography, agricultural sciences, or a related field. It is desirable that candidates have a good understanding of agricultural production systems and advanced skills in one or more of the following areas: ecological modeling, computer programming, statistics, GIS, and remote sensing. Candidates should also have a strong record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals, be fluent in English, and have good communication skills. Perquisites and IRRI environment The position is located at IRRI headquarters in Los Baņos, 70 kilometers south of Manila, Philippines.
