Lead Analyst

Thomson Reuters Lanworth, a natural resources intelligence firm, seeks a highly innovative scientist to help manage and expand a successful program providing accurate, early season estimates of the area, yield, and production of major commodity crops worldwide. Lanworth's crop production estimates are an emerging standard closely watched by the agriculture markets.

The successful candidate will: 1) manage and/or execute workflows with full accountability for quality and timeliness, 2) maintain and develop core analytical and technical processes, 3) train, supervise, and mentor junior analytical staff, and 4) communicate results in reports, presentations, and client calls.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience evaluating interactions among the physical environment, human management systems, and/or biological organisms
  • Competency in programming (c, FORTRAN), scripting (bash, Python), and database query (SQL) languages
  • Superlative written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze field, survey, and/or remotely-sensed data, especially in the context of crop monitoring and yield modeling
  • Fluency in or knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, and/or Russian
  • Experience with commercial corn, soybean, oil palm, wheat, cotton, and/or sugar production
  • Knowledge of the futures, options, and cash markets for agricultural commodities
  • Master's degree (PhD preferred) in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Geography, Atmospheric Sciences, or a closely related discipline
