Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen

Associate Professor in Physical Geography/Ecosystem Modelling

A position in climatology within the Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis group of physical geography is available from Department of Geography and Geology.

The research group focusses on quantifying cycling of water, carbon and nutrients in terrestrial ecosystems and exchange processes between atmosphere, surface and soil. Our current research profile deals with dynamic processes in both natural and anthropogenic systems. The Arctic perspective is currently our main focus but research has been undertaken across the globe from tropical, Danish, Arctic to Antarctic systems over the last decade.

Qualifications

The ideal profile for the position will be able to cover the topics of scaling of fluxes of water, carbon and energy from observational data at plot scale to region using ecosystem modelling and down scaling from satellite or grid data. A capacity to work across different geographical latitudes and link surface process understanding to landscape elements is considered an asset.

The successful candidates will have responsibility for courses in basic climatology and ecosystem modelling and participate in the teaching of bachelor and master courses within topics of earth system science, surface water and energy cycle and basic surface climatology. Ability to attract students at master and PhD level is considered an essential part of being a successful associated professor at the department.

A strong scientific track record in flux observation/modelling or surface water balance, with the ability to attract funding is essential.
