2010/025 BA: Research associate in the field of transportation modeling; Institute of Transport Research



The Institute of Transport Research in Berlin-Adlershof is seeking a research associate in the field of transport modeling

Description of activities:

The DLR Institute of Transport Research does work in connection with personal and commercial transportation, as well as the sustainability of developments in transportation and in transportation-related fields. To this end, a microscopic activity- and agent-based model of transportation demand is being developed and employed in national and international projects.

Your activities will include modeling transportation demand, and particularly optimizing existing simulations and independently developing individual program components.

Your activities will also include supervising the application of these simulations in a variety of projects aiming to determine the impact of various measures on transportation demand. You will be joining an existing highly motivated and successful transportation modeling team.

Desired qualifications:

  • experience with multi-agent simulations;
  • experience working with geoinformation systems;
  • expertise in the modeling of transportation systems.

Minimum qualifications:

  • a university degree in computer science or software engineering, or a degree in the natural sciences, economic sciences or transportation sciences with solid computer science components;
  • extensive experience with an object-oriented programming language (preferably Java);
  • experience in scientific computing and the development of computer simulations;
  • experience and expertise working with relational database systems;
  • good English skills;
  • strong teamwork and communication skills;

The position is to be filled starting 1 August 2010 and will exist for three years. Compensation will be based on Pay Grade 14 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Public Service Employees, depending on responsibilities and qualifications.
