Lecturer - Physical Geography

This is a full-time post for three years and is available from 1st September 2009.


In April 2008, the University of Exeter announced plans to invest £80 million in science, medicine and engineering, building on existing areas of excellence. Climate Change and Sustainable Futures is one of five interdisciplinary themes identified for investment. The theme underpins the growing strategic alliance with the Exeter-based UK Met Office that facilitates joint research between the two organisations to advance climate science. The theme will also benefit from a planned European investment of more than £40 million to develop the Environment and Sustainability Institute on the University's Cornwall Campus.

For this post we are seeking candidates with research interests in the broad field of climate change and risk to support the teaching of the Climate Change and Risk Management MSc which is run from the School of Geography at the Cornwall Campus. This MSc is the first of its type in the UK and links scientific understandings of climate change with risk management and policy. We would welcome applications from those working on one or more of the following: climate change impacts; risk management; hydrological processes; ecology; environmental modelling; geographical spatial analysis; landscape responses to environmental change; reconstruction of past environmental change reconstruction. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach on the undergraduate Geography programme.

The starting salary will be from £31,513pa up to £35,469pa on Grade F, depending on qualifications and experience.
