Lectureship in Physical Geography / Environmental Science



Salary in the range: Grade 7a £31,671 - £36,715

This new Lectureship in Physical Geography / Environmental Science, which results from the continued growth and development in the areas of Geography and Environmental Science at Keele, is available from October 2010. Applications are welcomed from individuals committed to the delivery of high quality research and teaching in the area of Physical Geography / Environmental Science, with interests and experience that complement our research strengths in environmental science, sustainability and physical geography, and who have an ability and willingness to teach across a range of Physical Geography and Environmental Science topics.

Candidates will be expected to actively contribute to the delivery, development and administration of our undergraduate programmes in Geography and Environmental Science, including the development, organisation and delivery of fieldwork programmes, including residential field courses both in the UK and overseas, and our new collaborative overseas provision in environmental science with Xiaozhuang University in China, in addition to contributing to teaching on relevant Masters programmes. Candidates will be expected to develop an active research programme within the Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics (EPSAM) research institute that both complements and extends our existing research strengths in environmental science, sustainability and physical geography. Areas of existing research include eco-hydrology and biogeochemistry at aquatic-terrestrial interfaces, cold region research including glacial hydrology and glacial and periglacial geomorphology, Holocene environmental change with a focus on coastal environments and past sea level change, landscape ecology including global change implications on nutrient cycling and contaminant transport. There are strong links between natural and social science research at Keele in the environmental and sustainability area, including links between environmental transformation and economic development, environmental policy, environmental citizenship and sustainable urban regeneration.

This new appointment is one of a series of strategic appointments in the area of Geography and Environmental Science and Sustainability, underpinning a significant growth and expansion of this area at Keele. This new post is intended to complement and enhance our existing research profile in geography and environment-related disciplines, and presents many opportunities for further development of synergies in research between physical geography and environmental science and geology, chemistry and biology, as well as with human geography research and environmental policy in the social sciences.
