Visiting Assistant Professor of Geography
The Department of Geography & Geosciences at Salisbury University is accepting applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position. This is a 10-month teaching position with the opportunity to engage in research. Salisbury University's Department of Geography and Geosciences prides itself on giving undergraduate students an advanced, challenging learning experience. We seek an energetic individual committed to challenging both graduate and undergraduate students with integrated instruction and exploration.
Area of Specialization: Geographic Information Science
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach core and advanced undergraduate courses in GIScience, and/or graduate courses in our GIS Management program (12 credit hours per semester). An example of courses that the applicant might teach include Introduction to GIS, Cartographic Visualization, GIS for Business, and GIS for Planning. Additionally, the opportunity may arise to offer courses in his/her specific area of expertise.
The candidate will be invited to join existing externally-funded outreach activities of the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC).
Ph.D. or ABD in Geography or related field, with a concentration in Geographic Information Science, required at time of appointment. If ABD, the candidate would be hired at the rank of Instructor.
This position is primarily focused on undergraduate teaching, and thus, the candidate is expected to utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners. A demonstrated ability to support undergraduate student research is important. Experience using the ESRI suite of GIS products is necessary.
Experience using open source GIS software is beneficial.

The Department of Geography and Geosciences at Salisbury University consists of 16 faculty members with specializations in GIScience, Atmospheric Science, Physical Geography, Geology, Human Geography and Environmental/Land-Use Planning. The Department offers a graduate degree in GIS Management and undergraduate degrees in Geography, Earth Science, Earth Science for Secondary Education, and Urban/Land Use Planning. In addition, the ESRGC is an outreach entity of the Department and conducts applied sponsored research in excess of $500,000 a year.
The ESRGC is managed by the GIS faculty and employs a staff of ten GIS professionals and students, both graduate and undergraduate, in our GIS programs.
