This post is fixed term until 30 April 2015. The Geography Department is large and successful, with over 30 academic staff, and 400 undergraduate and postgraduate students. In the last Research Assessment Exercise, 60% of our research activity was judged to be world-class or internationally excellent, and 95% was rated as of international standard or above. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Physical Geography or closely-related subject (or will be near completion), an emerging track record of high-quality research commensurate with career stage that complements the interests of the Department, and a publication trajectory clearly commensurate with submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). We particularly encourage applications from those interested in palaeoceanography, ice-core records, geochronological and biomarker techniques. The appointee will be expected to develop their own portfolio of externally-funded research projects and be capable of linking with existing research areas and research teams in the Department. An ability to teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students is essential. The successful candidate will be a fluent communicator, well able to engage effectively with colleagues and students at all levels of study. Previous experience of teaching within higher education is desirable.
