School of Geography
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography
The School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Victoria is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography.
We seek a colleague who complements existing expertise within the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences. All fields of Physical Geography (broadly defined) will be considered. We particularly value researchers who cross conventional disciplinary boundaries, for example, between the earth's surface, atmosphere, oceans, lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere and biosphere. Areas of specialty might include, but are not limited to, earth-surface processes (coastal, hydrological, groundwater, hillslope, fluvial, glacial), and their drivers in present-day and/or Quaternary environments. Preference will be given to those who combine field, laboratory, and numerical investigations. Expertise in remote sensing and/or GIS is also an advantage. Applicants should demonstrate how their research is relevant to society (including Matauranga Maori) and how it interfaces with expertise within the broader School, including the social sciences.
Applicants will have a PhD in Physical Geography, Geology or a closely related discipline. Applicants at Lecturer level will show evidence of an emerging, high-quality research trajectory, demonstrated through publication in disciplinary-relevant internationally refereed journals and/or with academically reputable presses. Evidence of external funding success is also viewed as an asset at this level of appointment. Senior Lecturer-level, applicants will have an established track record in publication and research funding, and demonstrable, emergent leadership within their respective field.
The appointee should be an engaging teacher of Physical Geography. Enthusiasm for and experience in field course teaching would be highly valued. Candidates should also have experience in the supervision of Masters and Doctoral students (appropriate to level of appointment). Evidence of teaching and supervision quality will be an advantage.
