Professor in Sedimentary Geology

The Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a position at the Professor level within the field of Sedimentary Geology. The University seeks an innovative and visionary researcher capable of further developing the Sedimentary Geology field at Aarhus University. The position is available as soon as possible.

As part of the strategic planning of the Faculty of Science and Technology, The Department of Geoscience at present is in the process of renewing its profile through recruitments of new faculty members. The ambition of the Department is to excel within the general themes of Deep Earth Processes, Earth Surface Processes, Past Climate and Ocean Systems, Hydrogeological Systems, and Computational Earth Science. The new departmental profile will match the structure of the Faculty of Science and Technology and the University as a whole, which is meant to facilitate interdisciplinary cooperation across faculties and institutes.

The applicant should have a broad background in geology and a documented research and teaching experience in clastic sediment geology. A strong dedication to field work and experience with basin-scale interpretation of depositional systems are advantageous. Further merits are combining sediment geology and sedimentary petrology/geochemistry of sedimentary basins, and integrating geophysical methods in the interpretation of depositional systems.

The appointee must have experience in academic leadership, and a strong record of professional and scholarly achievements. Other important qualifications include abilities to establish strong international collaboration links and to attract funding from national and international sources, including industry, in a highly competitive environment.

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary environment, and is expected to further develop his/her strong research agenda and to engage in collaboration with groups within the department and within the university as a whole. The appointee will be expected to teach courses at all university levels, and documented teaching skills will be required.

The Faculty of Science refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
