Research Fellow in Deepwater Clastic Systems
As support for our largest industrial research consortium, led by Professor Ben Kneller, the School of Geosciences is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Deepwater Clastic Systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to take on responsibility for a range of scientific and research management tasks associated with a large (£1.3M) joint industry project on deepwater systems, involving five other institutions internationally (Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Argentina; Memorial University, Newfoundland; Colorado School of Mines, US; Istituto de Scienze Marine, Bologna, Italy; University of California at Santa Barbara, US) and eleven sponsor companies (BG, BP, ConocoPhillips, DONG, GDF Suez, Hess, PEMEX, Petrobras, RWE Dea, StatoilHydro, Total). These tasks may include (but not necessarily be limited to):
- Liaison with sponsors, individually and via consortium meetings and field trips.
- Oversee fieldwork planning, logistics and scientific progress on the ground, including liaison with other institutions on joint field-work.
- Data management and integration (GIS and web), technology transfer via web, and reporting to sponsor companies.
- Joint supervision of PhD students in Aberdeen and elsewhere, and preparation and co-authoring of publications based on past and ongoing research.
- Developing personal research themes.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in an appropriate area of the Earth Sciences and an emerging research profile as measured by presentations at international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
This post is available for a period of 2 years.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale (£29,704- £35,469 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
