Senior Cover Geologist

Salary $98,249-$111,064 pa + superannuation

Geoscience Australia (GA) is embarking on a large program of data acquisition over northern Australia as part of the Exploring for the Future program. One of the aims of this program is to constrain the thickness and character of cover in the north. We are seeking a senior geologist to join a multidisciplinary team to provide scientific leadership and mentoring to staff in geological data compilation and geophysical interpretation. A key focus of the role will be overseeing and undertaking interpretation of conductivity models derived from airborne electromagnetic data linked to borehole data and the storing of this information in GA databases.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Knowledge of Australian Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic and Neoproterozoic geology at local and regional scales, including knowledge of landscape evolution and sedimentary processes;
  • Expertise in synthesising disparate geological and geophysical datasets to aid geological interpretation;
  • Experience in leading projects and mentoring junior staff;
  • Expertise in leasing with internal and external stake holders;
  • Expertise in working with company borehole reports, handling data in a GIS environment and utilising corporate databases.
  • Sound communications skill, both verbal and in writing, with team members, internal and external stake holders, including state and territory geological survey geologists.
  • Desirable skills in automation of repetitive tasks (e.g. linking borehole logs with look-up tables, SQL).

Eligibility

  • to be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen at the closing date of application.
  • the successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
  • commencement of employment is subject to the successful applicant undergoing and satisfying a police history check.
