Open Position Lecturer in Exogenous
Geology/Sedimentology (non-tenure track, 50-100%)


The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position in Exogenous Geology /Sedimentology.

Your tasks: The Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Basel, is looking for candidates committed to teaching. The successful candidate is expected to teach basic courses in the broader fields of geology/sedimentology, to supervise undergraduate and graduate students within the frame of the BSc and MSc Geoscience programs, and to organize field excursions and labs. Teaching requirements are 8 lecture hours per week within a preassigned curriculum. Courses at the BSc level are taught in German and German proficiency is a requirement. The successful candidate is also expected to carry out research at an internationally visible level.

Your profile: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a solid research background in the broader fields of exogenous geology, and a strong interest and experience in teaching at different levels. A PhD degree in geosciences is required. Preference is given to applications with an expertise in climate/Quaternary geology, general sedimentology, and/or environmental/applied geoscience.

We offer a 100% Research Associate position for up to three years, with a competitive salary and full social benefits. The appointment will be initially for two years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension upon positive review. The Department of Environmental Sciences has a strong focus on environmental/climate geosciences and biogeochemistry, and the successful candidate will be offered full support to successfully contribute to the departmentís research reputation in these and related fields.
