W2 professorship in Geodynamic Modelling

The Bayerisches Geoinstitut is seeking an outstanding scientist to develop an inde-pendent and internationally visible research programme in geodynamic modelling or in a similar field of solid Earth geophysics. Candidates should have a high level of expertise in the use of computational methods to investigate physical processes related to the formation, dynamics or evolution of the Earth and other planets. The initial appointment will be for 5 years, but the post can subsequently become permanent upon a successful evaluation at the end of this 5 year period.

The research goals of the Bayerisches Geoinstitut are primarily aimed at the experimental investigation of the chemistry, structure and dynamics of Earth and planetary interiors. The successful candidate will closely interact and collaborate with colleagues at the Geoinstitut and other groups at Bayreuth University. They will, in addition, develop collaborations with domestic and international research groups involved in geophysical modelling. The appointee will be expected to exploit national and international funding opportunities and to establish a dynamic research group that includes early career scientists. They will also participate in teaching, particularly at the Master's and Ph. D. level. Applicants should be in possession of a Ph.D and provide evidence for academic performance comparable to a German "Habilitation".
