1 PhD position at the Bayerisches Geoinstitut, University of Bayreuth, Germany studying the experimental determination of the rheology of mantle rocks at high pressure.
Starting date from July 2017.
A PhD position is available for 3 years duration funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This project, which is a collaboration between the Bayerisches Geoinstitut and the PETRA III extension at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron facility (DESY) in Hamburg, will focus on the use of piezoelectricity to measure stresses at high pressures in the large volume multianvil press. The successful candidate will develop new experimental methods in order to study the rheology of mantle mineral assemblages. The project will also involve the use of synchrotron X-ray diffraction.
Applicants should have a Master's degree (or equivalent) with a strong quantitative background in solid Earth sciences, physics, material sciences or a related field.
