Carbonate Sedimentologist Research Associate

The Reservoir characterization Research Laboratory (RCRL) at the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) of the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a full-time researcher to develop areas of existing and emerging research on carbonate systems as it relates to applied subsurface geology.

Candidates that have experience in mixed carbonate-siliciclastics stratigraphy and sedimentology are preferred. The position requires performing multiple research projects that advance the research goals of the RCRL Industrial Associates program and combines fundamental knowledge of carbonate stratigraphy and sedimentology with applied subsurface geology to define and execute research that contributes to both academic and subsurface characterization knowledge leading to publications in international, peer-reviewed journals. Research must generate interest with research sponsors and lead to funded projects. Excellent technical communication skills are required as research results are communicated with project sponsors, both locally and at remote locations, numerous times per year.

Required Qualifications: PhD degree in discipline related to carbonate systems within the past 10 years. Established experience working carbonate systems in both outcrop and in subsurface reservoirs. Demonstrated record of presentation and publication in international, peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree in discipline related to carbonate and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic systems analysis within the last 5 years. Demonstrated record of publication in international peer-reviewed journals. Outstanding experience in characterizing carbonate and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic systems in outcrop combined with strong experience characterizing carbonate systems in the subsurface using cores, well-logs and seismic data. Demonstrated experience in characterizing producing or analogues carbonates systems of Permian or Cretaceous ages. Demonstrated ability to use quantitative methods to characterize carbonate and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic systems and willingness to grow in this area. Demonstrate understanding of challenges faced by society to explore, exploit and store hydrocarbon, green-house gases and water in carbonate strata.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000
