Post-doc position in Isotope Geochemistry


The position is funded by Freie Universität Berlin, open from October 1st, 2013, and available for 4 years. Salary will be according to the TV-L E 13 pay scale and includes benefits.

Job description: We are looking for a post-doctoral research scientist for scientific and technical support of our isotope geochemistry laboratories. These include a thermal ionization mass spectrometer (Triton), a sector field ICPMS (Element XR), and a 107 sqm clean lab for the analysis of geological samples. The candidate is expected to contribute scientific expertise, help in training of internal and external users, troubleshooting in case of malfunction of instruments, and to help with implementation of new analytical methods. We also expect participation in teaching of geochemistry classes (4 hours per semester, or at least one course).

Required qualification: A M.Sc. or comparable degree in earth sciences, chemistry or physics is required.

Desired qualification: Applicants should have a doctoral degree in earth sciences and experience with TIMS and ICP -MS applications in isotope geochemistry, in particular high-temperature processes. We expect that candidates have experience in the development of analytical methods and technical expertise with multi collector and ICP mass spectrometers.
