Research Assistant/Laboratory manager


The Quaternary Geology and Paleoclimatology Group at the Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of Bern, invites applications for a research assistant position in charge of the Optically Stimulated Luminescence Laboratory.

A highly motivated postdoctoral researcher is sought with a strong background in luminescence. The luminescence laboratory serves doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working on earth surface processes including pure dating applications but also methodological developments. A minor part of the laboratory capacity is also dedicated to dating for third-parties. The position also includes responsibility for management and funding of the laboratory, as well as supervision of students (PhD and MSc) and teaching within the MSc curriculum (in English). The successful applicant will be encouraged to submit research proposals, to work on developing methodologies and to produce scientific publications.

Established in 2006, the Bern OSL laboratory is fully equipped with four Risų TL/OSL DA-20 readers, dual-laser SG, and IR-RF facilities. The 100% position is funded for 2 years with the potential to be renewed for another 4 years. Starting date is expected to be October/November 2016.
