The British Geological Survey (BGS) is one of the world's leading geoscience research organizations and the leading provider of geological advice and information in the United Kingdom. It operates both in the UK and internationally. The BGS is seeking to recruit two highly-motivated and enthusiastic Geologists to be based at its Keyworth office near Nottingham and undertake a range of office and field based geological activities.

You will have an undergraduate degree in Geology (or related subject) and ideally a range of relevant industry experience. A minimum of 3 years' experience and/or postgraduate qualifications that demonstrates an ability to use different types of geological information would be an advantage but is not essential. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields of geology are also essential: sedimentology (either clastic or carbonates), structural geology, quaternary geology and geomorphology, engineering geology and geological interpretation of geophysical data.

As a skilled field Geologist, you should be capable of synthesising your observations and data into coherent, spatial interpretations of the rock mass and its superficial cover. You will be numerate and comfortable with modern desk-based and mobile informatics technologies. You will be able to undertake independent and team-based studies, develop innovative solutions to geological challenges and link these to applications and impacts for BGS clients and wider stakeholders. As a confident communicator and team worker, you will be able to contribute positively to areas of your work, interacting with non-specialists, scientists and experts in other disciplines. You will also be a confident writer and have a proven record of contributing to written outputs (e.g. technical reports, scientific papers).

The post is based in Nottingham, UK, but at times involve fieldwork in the UK away from our centers and sometimes overseas. You must be able to travel and be able to work in remote, sometimes challenging environments. A driving license valid for use in the UK is essential.

Starting salary will be between 22,224 per annum to 30,600 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. For a salary above 28,200 per annum you will need to meet the criteria listed in the desirable criteria detailed in Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks.
