Keyworth, Nottingham
Leading and developing a multi-disciplinary team of highly motivated geoscientists and technical specialists, you will be responsible for building a portfolio of high impact, integrated research in the coastal zone in the context of developing a climate change impact model. Particular emphasis will be on understanding and quantifying the coupling of human and natural processes, and the consequences for hazards and ecosystem change. You will work with other Team Leaders in BGS to build strong collaborative links with other leading research institutions, and develop further the Survey's position at the forefront of inter-disciplinary, coastal zone and climate change research both nationally and internationally.
You will be qualified to MSc level or higher in geoscience or a related discipline, with relevant leadership experience and a strong track record of communicating your research to a broad constituency of stakeholders, including government, industry, academia and the public. You will have detailed knowledge of processes, systems and drivers of change in coastal and adjacent environments, and be able to meet various demands for the knowledge and expertise of your team by winning research grants and applied research contracts from a range of funding organisations and clients. You will be able to lead by example and motivate your team to publish their research in high impact, peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with international research partners.
This role is a leadership position, therefore you must be able to demonstrate a high level of managerial and motivational skills. Most importantly you must be able to demonstrate the ability to lead, influence, develop and inspire a team of scientists and support staff; seek out and win new funding opportunities and participate effectively in medium to long term strategic planning and horizon scanning activities. Good communication and interpersonal skills are therefore essential.
