Register your Interest in Providing Geoscience Services as an
Associate of BGS International

Background

BGS International1 is an independent 'spin out' company of the British Geological Survey that provides a variety of geoscientific services to support governments in acquiring, modernising & managing their geodata to promote exploration investment by the international mineral sector. Our offices are on the British Geological Survey's campus in Nottingham, UK.

BGS International (BGSi) specialises in:

  • Implementing multimillion dollar, geoscience/geothematic surveys in resource-rich countries that are funded by either the governments themselves and/or funding agencies such as the World Bank.
  • Compiling national/regional maps, reports and mineral promotion brochures to attract mineral exploration investment.
  • Assists national geoscience organisations in their restructuring at a technical and managerial level along with providing technical and managerial capacity building programmes.

Proposition

As a company we are rapidly expanding our project portfolio in Africa & elsewhere such as Afghanistan. We are therefore keen to expand our 'address book' of experienced geoscientists to join BGSi as associates where required for appropriate projects. Contract periods vary in length but typically are months long with some upcoming long-term residential positions of 1-3 year duration. Although relevant qualifications in geoscience at MSc and PhD level are advantageous, niche skills and proven experience (usually longer than 10 years) in providing geoscientific services in the mineral exploration sector is of particular importance.

We are especially interested in associates with the following skills:

  • Experienced project managers with a record of managing large, multi-year geoscientific projects & teams of geoscientists etc.
  • Expert geological mappers with particular expertise in basement mapping especially in Africa.
  • Experienced personnel in airborne geophysics (mag, rad and EM) with an ability to supervise & manage the quality control & assurance of geophysical data acquired by external contractors.
  • Geochemists especially in systematic geochemical surveys, their implementation, analysis & processing into geochemical maps/atlases.
  • Mineral resource geoscientists who can develop regional & sub-regional metallogenic/mineralization models.
  • GIS expertise in producing geoscience related maps
  • Experts in remote sensing & processing of various satellite data.
