Job
Description:
The
Postdoctoral
Researcher
is
part
of
an
international,
multi-disciplinary
team
all
working
on
the
Surface
Water
and
Ocean
Topography
satellite
mission
(SWOT,
http://swot.jpl.nasa.gov).
The
new
researcher
will
join
our
team
conducting
pre-launch
planning
for
SWOT
with
a
particular
emphasis
on
discharge
algorithms,
risk-reduction
studies,
and
operation
of
the
SWOT
instrument
simulator.
Overall,
our
research
includes
surface
water
hydrology
and
hydraulics,
and
both
satellite-based
measurements
and
physical
modeling.
In
addition,
we
offer
research
opportunities
in
Congo
Basin
hydrology,
e.g.,
developing
an
understanding
of
the
interfluvial
wetlands.
Snow
hydrology
research
is
also
possible,
e.g.,
microwave
remote
sensing
of
snow.
Expertise
in
one
or
more
of
the
following
areas
is
desired:
data
assimilation
methods,
hydrodynamic
modeling,
hydrologic
mass-balance
modeling,
or
fluvial
geomorphology.
The
successful
candidate
will
work
within
our
team
and
cooperate
by
exchanging
results
with
colleagues
at
other
universities,
at
NASA
centers,
and
with
international
partners.
The
person
will
have
an
office
at
OSUfs
Byrd
Polar
Research
Center,
where
they
will
have
opportunity
to
interact
with
world
renown
researchers.
Publication
of
results
and
submission
of
proposals
for
follow-on
activities
is
required.
Given
that
SWOTfs
launch
is
scheduled
for
2019-2020,
this
is
an
exciting
opportunity
to
get
involved.
Salary:
$55,000 to $60,000 per year.
Requirements:
A PhD in fields such as hydrology, civil engineering, earth sciences, physical geography, applied
mathematics, or computer science is required for the position.
