Postdoctoral Researcher – SWOT Hydrology
Satellite Mission

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Researcher is part of an international, multi-disciplinary team all working on the Surface Water and Ocean Topography satellite mission (SWOT, http://swot.jpl.nasa.gov). The new researcher will join our team conducting pre-launch planning for SWOT with a particular emphasis on discharge algorithms, risk-reduction studies, and operation of the SWOT instrument simulator. Overall, our research includes surface water hydrology and hydraulics, and both satellite-based measurements and physical modeling. In addition, we offer research opportunities in Congo Basin hydrology, e.g., developing an understanding of the interfluvial wetlands. Snow hydrology research is also possible, e.g., microwave remote sensing of snow. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: data assimilation methods, hydrodynamic modeling, hydrologic mass-balance modeling, or fluvial geomorphology. The successful candidate will work within our team and cooperate by exchanging results with colleagues at other universities, at NASA centers, and with international partners. The person will have an office at OSUfs Byrd Polar Research Center, where they will have opportunity to interact with world renown researchers. Publication of results and submission of proposals for follow-on activities is required. Given that SWOTfs launch is scheduled for 2019-2020, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved.

Salary:

$55,000 to $60,000 per year.

Requirements:

A PhD in fields such as hydrology, civil engineering, earth sciences, physical geography, applied mathematics, or computer science is required for the position.
