Materials Mineralogy

Initially, the appointment is limited to four years (salary group 14 TV-L). The employment is regulated by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract, § 2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. The permanent position of a Senior Researcher (salary group 15 TV-L) can be assigned in case of proof of outstanding aptitude, performance and competence after successful completion of an evaluation. Research and scientific teaching are carried out independently within the framework of the Bremen Higher Education Act (§ 24 Para-. 2). The teaching responsibilities are four weekly hours per semester in the position as Researcher and nine weekly hours as Senior Researcher.

The Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Bremen is an internationally established research and teaching institution. It covers the whole range of modern geosciences, offers five application- and research-oriented and internationally oriented degree programs (BSc and MSc) and maintains close scientific cooperation with non-university research institutions. In conjunction with the MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes, Bremen is an outstanding research location in the field of materials science. In the course of the reorientation of the area of crystallography/geomaterials research, we are looking for a junior scientist who wants to develop an independent research profile in the field of materials mineralogy and at the same time will contribute to and further develop our cooperation network.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Independent research in the field of materials science mineralogy e.g. applied mineralogy, mineralogical and technical crystallography, X-ray diffraction methods, electron microscopy. A connection to our material science focus (MAPEX) is desirable.
  • Development and implementation of own research projects, including the acquisition of third-party funding as well as the supervision and support of young scientists
  • Independent teaching in BSc and MSc courses in German and English
  • Participation in academic self-administration.

Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):

  • Successful university degree (Master) in geosciences, mineralogy or materials science
  • Relevant, outstanding doctorate obtained in recent years with a focus on mineralogy, crystallography or materials science (with mineralogical orientation)
  • First scientific achievements (e.g. publications, third-party funding, etc.) First experience in academic teaching
  • Language requirements: Ability to teach in German and English, if necessary for one of the languages after a short transition period.

Desired in addition is:

  • Experience in the application of x-ray or electron diffraction methods in the characterization of crystalline materials.
  • Motivation for innovative teaching-learning concepts
