Visiting Assistant Professor of Geology

University at Buffalo, SUNY



The Geology Department, University at Buffalo, seeks an adjunct Instructor, with an in-house title of Visiting Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester, or equivalent, and will carry additional service and/or administrative responsibilities associated with the Department's undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for teaching petrology and structural geology in the undergraduate curriculum. Additional teaching responsibilities are likely to include introductory geology and an upper level or graduate course(s) in the candidate's specialty. Opportunities (depending upon interest and aptitude) include advancing pedagogy and scholarship through attendance at professional meetings and/or mentoring undergraduate research students.

The successful candidate will have earned a PhD in Geology or a closely related field with a conferral date no later than the start of the appointment. Qualifications to teach petrology, structural geology, and advanced geology courses are required. Ability to lead field trips for assigned courses is also required. University teaching experience is preferred. The candidate must have authorization to work in the U.S.

The position is a temporary, three year position beginning August 15, 2013. The initial appointment is for a one-year term, renewable for two additional years for a total of three years.
