Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Passive Seismology/Geomechanics



A postdoctoral fellow position is available for a highly qualified individual to conduct innovative research in one or more of the following areas: 1) development of innovative methods for processing, analysis and interpretation of microseismic data acquired for monitoring hydraulic-fracture treatments, development of enhanced geothermal systems or geologic sequestration of greenhouse gas emission; 2) geomechanical simulation of fracture propagation or small-scale rupture processes.

Required knowledge and skills

  • PhD in geophysics with specialization in seismology, or related discipline. The applicant must have earned a doctoral degree within the past three years.
  • Advanced programming skills in a matlab environment.
  • Previous research experience working with microseismic data or geomechanics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Extensive communication at various levels in academia and industry are required.
  • The applicant must be capable of working in a self?directed manner within a team environment. The applicant must have excellent multi?tasking skills to provide support and mentorship to other members of the project team.
  • A high level of productivity for peer?reviewed publications is expected.

Remuneration and term

Remuneration will range between CAD $45,000 and CAD $50,000 depending on experience. The term is for one year, renewable for a second year. The expected start date is January 1, 2014.
