Our Master in Geodynamics focuses on various aspects of tectonic processes identified through analyses of magmatic and metamorphic rocks as well as their deformation structures. The emphasis of the two years master-degree programme is given to the individual research project, master thesis, which is awarded by 55 out of the total 120 ECTS credits. Our tutorial style of teaching consists of a number of “hands-on” practical courses developing computer-modelling skills. Field expertise represents an integral part of our master programme with the majority of master thesis projects based on fieldwork. The recently built laboratory of experimental petrology allows complementary insight into complex natural processes.
Teamwork habits, as well as independent thinking, is fostered by interaction with our mixed Czech, international and visiting Erasmus students and IPSG staff and PhD students. The students benefit from our wide network of collaborators from various scientific institutions in Czechia and worldwide including the possibility of Erasmus mobility to a large number of the top European universities.
Our Master in Geodynamics programme is instructed in English, it is free of charge and its standard duration is two years. Being the student of the Charles University guarantees a number of student benefits including accommodation in student dormitories and discount for public transport. The basic monthly living costs for incoming students are estimated to 500 Eur. For more information on visa requirements and student housing see the Charles University web page https://cuni.cz/UKEN-555.html
