University of CincinnatiDepartment of GeologyAcademic DirectorIn the light of recent expansions and future reorganization of the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Department of Geology we are seeking an Academic Director. The Academic Director will be primarily responsible for administration and the development of both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs within the Department of Geology. This will include the recruitment of students into our programs from outside of the University and College, and from within the College to help increase enrolment and retention. The Academic Director will be responsible for managing the academic affairs of the Department of Geology and allied students under the direction of the Graduate and Undergraduate Advisors. Specific duties will include coordinating with the registrar to assign appropriate courses and room allocations, and the scrutiny of student transcripts and advising students on the enrolment on appropriate courses for the quick and successful completion of their degrees. Other duties will include advising and mentoring students, and the supervision of our new undergraduate-graduate mentoring program and the management of our new 4+1 degree. In addition, the Academic Director will be responsible for overseeing introductory level laboratory courses, and planning and expediting field classes. The successful candidate will be expected to have at least a Master's degree in Geology or Earth Science, and to have had experience in running and teaching both laboratory and field aspects of the geological sciences. A clean driving license is essential. We encourage the Academic Director to pursue a modest, but active, research program that complements some of the Department's current research foci in paleontology, sedimentology, and Quaternary geology and geomorphology.
