The Institute of Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Cologne, Germany, invites applications for a:

Postdoc position in AMS 14C analysis
(salary group TV-L 13, fulltime)


for a period of 2 years starting as soon as possible.

Job description

The position will be integrated in the new interdisciplinary group CologneAMS (www.cologne-ams.de). The AMS group is conducting cosmogenic nuclide dating with a new 6 MV tandetron accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS) being currently installed at the University of Cologne.

The major focus of this position will be on the establishment of methods and the conduction of tests for determining process blanks for different materials including preparative gas chromatography for compound-specific 14C analysis. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to (paleo-) environmental research projects at the Institute.

Qualifications

She/he should have proven experience in either AMS 14C analysis or stable isotope measurements. A practical knowledge of vacuum systems and/or organic geochemical methods is desirable. Sufficient experience in laboratory geochemical analysis preferably including radiocarbon is required for supervision of students, technicians and for offering advice to users of the laboratory. The position involves teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Team work and communication skills are essential.
