Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia UniversityPost Doctoral Research Scientist in the field of Aerosol ScienceSearch Nr: LD 670 08 001The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in the field of Aerosol Science. The position is a full-time 2-year appointment, with the opportunity of continuation and growth depending on progress and availability of funding. We seek a candidate to help with a instrument development and air quality/public health project. Candidate would assist in efforts to test and calibrate new miniaturized personal monitor for air quality and then lead the field and laboratory work associated with using the monitor in a cohort of 9 and 10 year old children. Monitor would also record activity and outdoor location by GPS. Duties would include collection of particulate matter samples and their analysis by single particle SEM/EDX, mass estimates (gravimetrically and by SEM), and other optical methods as well as calibration and interpretation of the activity and outdoor location sensors (GPS). PhD in physical sciences (e.g physics, chemistry), engineering, public health, or another related field required. Experience with electronics, programming, and/or smart programming applications of GPS data a plus. Search will stay open for 30 days after the ad appears and will continue until the job is filled.
