Postdoctoral Research Associates
Postdoc #1, supervised by Prof. Esteban Gazel, requires a completed PhD in Geochemistry, Materials Science, Mineralogy or related fields, analytical skills for micro-nano materials measurements demonstrated with peer-reviewed publications. Preferred qualifications for postdoc #1 include experience with TEM, SEM, XRD, and spectroscopy (e.g, FTIR). Postdoc #1 will work on the in-situ characterization (e.g., SEM, TEM, FTIR) of morphology, chemical composition, and spectroscopy signatures of volcanic ash and aerosols materials from chemically representative eruptions to understand their long-term impact in climate and ocean productivity.
Postdoc #2 will be supervised by Prof. Matt Pritchard and a completed Ph.D. in volcanology, remote sensing, or a related field is required. Postdoc #2 will use a variety of remote sensing techniques to observe volcanic ash as well as monitoring data to understand eruption precursors.
The postdocs will work closely together along with atmospheric scientists led by Prof. Natalie Mahowald and collaborators around the world, including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. There will be opportunities for fieldwork to collect ash samples and produce field measurements. Review of applications begins on June 15, 2020 and while the start date is negotiable, we prefer a start by 1 January 2021. The position is for one year and is renewable, contingent on funding and performance.
