CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Organic and
Postdoctoral Fellowships at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.
Postdoctoral Fellows (PDF) are appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences. The appointee will work closely and in collaboration with the leading Professor of WA-Organic and Isotope Geochemistry Centre, Curtin University.
You will design, analyse, interpret and publish studies using accelerated experimental weathering through rock aging, gas capture and its analysis, to determine pathfinder compounds (hydrocarbons and S-bearing gases), isotopic signatures (principally C and S isotopes) and metal-bearing gases (e.g. Ni-carbonyl) for sulphide ores. Once these signatures are determined, the application of column experiments will be used to understand the ability of the compounds identified to migrate through regolith (weathered bedrock, soils and sediments) materials. The PDF will become a key scientist in research into gases-related mineral exploration and deliver new fundamental knowledge. This will lead to field application and development of soil gas collecting technology. This project will be undertaken in collaboration with Curtin University, Perth and Queen’s University, Canada.
