CSIRO Land and Water
Spatial Hydrologist
$75K - $81K plus Superannuation
Land and Water, Wagga
Ref. No. 2008/334
CSIRO Land & Water is seeking a Spatial Hydrologist to play a major role in developing irrigation savings analysis and modelling science. The appointee will work as part of the irrigation systems team to analyse off-farm water losses (water withdrawal from the river/groundwater through to reticulation systems to farms and return flows) using remote sensing and GIA techniques and multi-scale irrigation system models.
This position is based in the Irrigation Systems Group (G1.1) with strong outputs to the Water for a Healthy Country Better basin Futures (BBF) Theme and Rural Water Use Stream. The Irrigation Systems Group is concerned with multi-scale modelling science aimed at developing irrigation system science in the following areas
- Match landscape capability with irrigation systems,
- Multi-scale irrigation system measurement and modelling to quantify "hotspots" for water saving investments, and
- Developing water management interventions to maximise benefits from irrigation whilst reducing the environmental impacts within and downstream of the scheme.
A holistic irrigation analysis which can monitor, upscale/downscale water losses/gains and water quality implications from farm to the irrigated systems will contribute to CLW developing irrigation systems science and become a national and international leader in this area.
The position will be based at the Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC), which is located in Perth, Western Australia.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
