The successful applicant will interact amongst field staff and on occasion supervise the work of casuals, to assist in all aspects of the milling quality HRZ wheat breeding project.

The objective of the project is to breed and trial introductions of milling quality wheats for commercial release to growers in the high rainfall zones. These wheats will be high yielding and have robust disease resistances; and be suitable for export and domestic milling uses. They will provide growers with varieties have the ability to maximise longer growing seasons that are characteristic of the HRZ.

Features of the Project are:
  1. the introduction of international germplasm from northern hemisphere breeding programs in an outdoor quarantine nursery,


  2. identify possible defects in high yielding introductions and breed for defect elimination


  3. run trials around the country in co-operation with service providers
