Departments of Earth Sciences and Oceanography

Postdoctoral Research in Reflection/Refraction Seismology

An opening exists for research in controlled-source seismology to analyze coincident MCS and OBS reflection/refraction data of exploration interest on the Nova Scotia continental slope.

The successful candidate will use the new seismic imaging facility in Earth Sciences consisting of a large dedicated cluster, 45 TB of disk space, visualization stations, and state of the art software. Our goal is to develop high definition velocity models using a variety of techniques, including full-waveform tomography, in order to characterize the physical properties of the sediment in deep-water regions with only limited borehole well control.

The position will give opportunities to interact broadly with researchers in both departments interested in the formation of rifted margins and with our government and industry partners. Participation on a wide range of sea-going programs is also possible. For more details see http://myweb.dal.ca/ml234413/research/project6.html

The position is available from June 1, 2008 and has secured funding for a 3-year term with a starting salary of $45,000/yr. The successful applicant may also qualify for tax-free status as an academic PDF. A PhD with experience in MCS and/or OBS processing is expected. To apply, send CV with two references by April 21 to
