Research Fellow - Geodesy and Tectonophysics

The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for post-doctoral research scientist positions in the fields of geodesy and tectonophysics. We have a number of open positions available. The successful applicants will work with investigators of the Tectonics and Climate groups on inter-connected problems related to natural hazards, with a particular emphasis on Southeast Asia and surroundings.

The successful candidates will join a team of geodesists, modelers and geologists interested in (1) increasing fundamental knowledge of the region's tectonic and seismic behavior, for more reliable forecasting and mitigation of earthquake and tsunami hazards, or (2) developing our understanding of regional sea-level change, to help prepare local communities for the future effects of a warming climate and a growing population.

We seek qualified, highly motivated candidates to participate in the following types of research activities:

  • Design, analysis and modeling of continuously operating GPS and seismic networks in SE Asia, with applications to the physics of the earthquake cycle.
  • Advance the understanding of the current and future behavior of faults and the lithosphere using seismological, geodetic (GPS, InSAR, GRACE) and geological constraints, and advanced numerical simulations.
  • Study of regional sea-level change, combining the effects of climate change, tectonics, and localized subsidence, using a combination of data (e.g., GRACE, GPS, tide gauges, InSAR, Wave Gliders) and models.

Start dates and application deadlines are flexible, from immediate until the positions are filled. Salaries are internationally competitive.

Requirements:

A recent Ph.D. in Geophysics or a related discipline is required. Experience in computer programming and high-level computational skills are necessary, as well as research experience directly relevant to the research activities described above.

Application:

Please submit your CV, a statement of research interests, and the name of 2 referees to eos_humanresources@ntu.edu.sg We regret that only successful candidates will be informed.
