Quantitative Engineering Geology
The Chair of Engineering Geology at the ETH Zuerich is looking for a junior or senior research associate and lecturer in Quantitative Engineering Geology. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in earth sciences, civil engineering or related field. Excellence in research, experience field investigations and modeling, and fundamental understanding of hydraulic, mechanical or thermal processes in fractured rocks are of prime importance. A cutting-edge research record in rock slope and landslide processes at various spatial and time scales modeling is desirable.
The candidate will be expected (1) to teach two classes in a field related to engineering geology, (2) to develop funded research programs addressing geomechanical or hydromechanical processes in fractured rocks, (3) to supervise undergraduate and graduate students and their thesis work, and (4) to support students in the use of our comprehensive field or lab testing equipment.
This ETH position with an attractive pool of field and lab equipment can be filled by the successful candidate in summer or fall 2013 over a period of about 6 years.
