The Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research SCCER and the Chair of Engineering Geology at the ETH Zurich are looking for a research associate and lecturer for field scale experiments in fractured rocks.
Research Associate and Lecturer Position for Field Scale Experiments in Fractured Rocks
The candidate will be a member of a team designing, executing and analyzing large scale multidisciplinary experiments related to deep geothermal energy (EGS). The main experiments will be carried out in a new underground lab called Bedretto (similar as the Grimsel Test Site but deeper). Other in-situ experiments of the candidate could be related to unconventional geothermal systems and CO2 sequestration. The candidate is also expected to co-teach graduate courses in rock mechanical and hydraulic testing, supervise under/graduate students and their thesis work, and support students in the use of our comprehensive field testing equipment.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in earth sciences, petroleum or geotechnical engineering or related field. Knowledge and demonstrated experience of rock and fracture hydraulics and mechanics and in-situ testing and monitoring are of prime importance. Demonstrated interest in deep geothermal energy and CO2 sequestration are desired. This ETH project position with an attractive salary according to ETH standards and cutting edge lab and field testing equipment can be filled by the successful candidate in summer 2018 for a period of up to 4 years.
We look forward to receiving your online application including a cover letter, CV, curriculum vitae with full personal and career details, and a detailed statement of research interests.
