Senior Assistant position in Experimental Mineral Physics
100 %, Zurich, temporary
The Experimental Mineral Physics (EMP) group in the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology of ETH Zurich (led by Professor Motohiko Murakami) seeks a senior researcher to join our vigorous research program in the ultrahigh-pressure experimental mineral physics to explore the internal structure, mineralogy and evolution of the Earth and the other planets.
The successful candidate is expected to perform high-pressure and hightemperature experimental research in collaboration with group members, to teach, and to undertake infrastructural tasks. This includes raising funding and supervising PhD students, teaching MSc and BSc courses (in German/English) and supervising MSc and BSc projects. A starting date in 2019 is negotiable and the contract is for 2 years renewable up to a total of 6 years. The salary will be accordance with the regulations of ETH Zurich.
The applicants should have a doctoral degree preferably in Earth Sciences, Physics or related field and will normally have at least two years of postdoctoral experience and a field of expertise that may be anything in the area of high-pressure mineral physics related to the research topics such as mineralogy, chemistry, or elasticity of deep planetary interiors. High-pressure experimental skills using a laser-heated diamond anvil cell apparatus including the ability to develop the optical, spectroscopic, or infrared laser heating system are an advantage. Previous experiences with the ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy would be beneficial. The working language of the groups is English.
Applicants should send their CV, publication list, statement of research interests and the names and contact information of two referees as a single PDF-file to Prof. Motohiko Murakami, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
