Researcher in hydrothermal geochemistry and/or igneous petrology

The GeoZentrum Nordbayern at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg seeks applicants for the position of a researcher in the field of hydrothermal geochemistry and/or igneous petrology.

This position can be filled on April 1st 2019 and is limited for the time of 6 years with a possible extension for another 4 years. Salary is according to the German civil service remuneration system A13. The successful applicant is expected to carry out her/his own research in the fields of hydrothermal geochemistry and/or igneous petrology utilising the analytical facilities available within the GeoZentrum and seeking external research funding. The successful applicant has to teach 5 hours/week including field trips with students. She/he is also expected to participate in cruises on research vessels.

The minimum qualification required is a PhD degree and a strong hydrothermal geochemical and ore geological or magmatic geochemical research background. Experience in isotope and trace element analytical methods (e.g thermal ionization or ICP mass spectrometry) is also required. Initiative, a strong publication record, and good interpersonal skills are expected.

The GeoZentrum Nordbayern has strong research in both high- and low-temperature geochemistry. Current facilities at the GeoZentrum include XRF, XRD, electron microprobe, LA quadrupole ICP-MS, solution quadrupole ICP-MS, TIMS, MC ICP-MS, atomic fluorescence spectrometers, and stable isotope mass spectrometers as well as different labs for sample preparation.
