Postdoc position at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (for 2 years)

We welcome applications by young and highly motivated scientists to contribute to the DFG funded project "Sources and enrichment processes of metal(loid)s in submarine back-arc hydrothermal systems: A combined Se and multiple S isotope approach". The post-doctoral researcher will be part of an internationally recognised working group in geochemistry, magmatic petrology and economic geology with excellent analytical facilities. The project will benefit from collaborations with scientists from leading national and international institutions.

Project summary

  • Field work including sampling of volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits and related magmatic rocks
  • Study of samples from past research cruises in the W-Pacific region
  • Study of ODP drill core samples from hydrothermal systems
  • In-situ trace element study of hydrothermal sulfides and sulfates
  • Analyses of (ultra-)trace elements in fresh and altered magmatic rocks
  • Se and multiple S isotope analyses of sulfide/sulfate separates and magmatic rocks
  • Developing models for the hydrothermal metal cycle from source to deposit in modern and ancient submarine back-arc hydrothermal systems
  • Writing manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Participation at national and international conferences
  • Support for developing an own research proposal following the advertised position

Essential qualifications

  • PhD in geosciences or a related field with a strong background in geochemistry and economic geology
  • Very good skills in spoken and written English
  • At least one (accepted) publication as a first author in an international peer-reviewed journal included in the ISI Web of Science
  • Experience in the mineralogy and chemistry of hydrothermal sulphides

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in stable isotope geochemistry and analytical work in a cleanroom laboratory
  • Experience in EPMA and LA-ICP-MS measurements

Application procedure:

The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg intends to increase the number of women in research and teaching positions, and therefore strongly encourages female researchers to apply. Disabled applicants will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification.
